Mr. Chay Yee Meng, a Singapore Chartered Accountant (Fellow member), began his working career as an Audit and Tax Accountant with Arthur Young & Company (now known as Ernst & Young) in 1980 immediately after he earned his degree in Accountancy from Nanyang University.

In 1982, he joined General Motors Singapore Finance department for five years handling accounting, costing and managing financial systems. In 1987, he was named Director and Financial Controller of SCI Manufacturing, then the largest US based electronics contract manufacturing company in the world. He was later named as SCI’s Asia Regional Controller.

In 1992, Mr. Chay co-founded Natsteel Electronics Pte Ltd, taking over a company which was about to be liquidated. As founding director and CFO of the company, Chay and his team of management, successfully turned the company into strong profitability and continued to grow the company for the next five years. In 1997, Natsteel Electronic Ltd ( NEL ) launched the largest IPO in Singapore with a market capitalization in excess of $700 million. In the following years, Chay was involved in setting up a number of overseas units via greenfield and M&A. That included the financing of such new setups in new equity and bond markets as well as corporate syndicated debt funding in excess of S$1 billion.

In 2000, NEL had become the 5th largest contract manufacturer in the world with revenue in excess of $ 2billion with subsidiaries in China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, USA, UK, Hungary and Mexico. He had served as the Group CFO throughout those years. In 2001, NEL was taken private in a S$4 billion deal and merged into US-based Solectron Technology, Inc ( which was merged into Flextronics International Ltd). Chay then served as Solectron’s VP Finance, Asia-Pacific Region until 2003. With that Chay had managed the processes of turning around an ill company, IPO, expansion globally, and eventually M&A and de-listing.

Mr. Chay also co-founded ECS Holdings Ltd, and served as Founding Director and Group CFO until ECS went IPO in 2001 where he stayed on as a Board member and member of the Audit Committee. ECS grew from a $50m company into a $2.5 billion in 2008 when Mr Chay left the company after a spin-off of ECS to a HK listed company.

In 2003, Mr. Chay founded the InfoWave Group, an engineering company specialized in developing equipment and solutions using GPS, RFID and other wireless technologies to track objects and data. In 2010, the group re-focused and organized into an IT services group known as Autoscan Technology Group.
